Da Vinci's Mona Lisa has been reproduced (posters, greeting cards, etc.) and reinvented (advertisements, artworks, etc.) more than any other artwork in the world. Mona mania began in 1911 when the painting was stolen from The Louvre. The painting achieved an anthropomorphic status as French and Italian states sought to rescue the work as though it were a damsel in distress. The story of the theft appealed to the Victorian love of Romance in the art and Literature. The event inspired artists, playwrights and musicians to celebrate the painting by creating new works with the Mona Lisa in mind. They say the imitation is the highest from of flattery.

Mona Leo by Matthew W. Johnson

Some say DaVinci saw himself in Mona Lisa. Click HERE and you’ll see that Matthew saw it too.

This adaptation of Mona Lisa by Matthew W. Johnson also represents Leonardo DaVinci. Each of the smaller panels depicts his many and varied interests beyond painting; He loved to sing, studied and watched the way flowers and plants grew, and was fascinated by waterways and natural disasters such as floods and fires. He was a handsome, caring, and good-natured person with a great love for animals and kept his own horses. The Vitruvian man demonstrates his study of the mathematical proportions of the human anatomy. He was the epitome of a Renaissance man.

Edible chocolate paintings? Edible yes, but meant to be consumed by the eye, not the stomach. Since 1989, Jean Zaun, formerly Jean Wertz has been creating one-of-a-kind hand-crafted paintings that define a whole new art form. They are composed entirely of white and semi-sweet Wilbur chocolate, food color, edible gold sugars, and confectionary glaze. Even the frames are made by casting dark or milk chocolate.
